The move is more significant than a simple merger or name change, because 62368-1 adopts fundamentally different engineering principles and terminologies.

It also minimizes national/regional certification differences. The new standard is not just a simple merger of EN 60065 and EN 60950-1. It’s being replaced because technology is changing, and EN 62368-1 is technology independent.
